Britain's
getting set for digital TV. Are you ready?
ITV is working with the other major broadcasters to help the UK
switch to fully digital television by 2012. Going digital gives
you more choice - and in many cases, a better quality picture too!
What is digital TV?
If you only get the five basic channels on your tv - chances are
you only have analogue terrestrial TV. Digital TV uses
the airwaves more efficiently - converting your TV picture into
bits of information that your set top box then converts back into
pictures and audio.
So instead of just five channels - the average home will be able
to receive more than twenty TV channels,
plus many more local and national digital radio stations and interactive
services.
When is it happening?
The switchover started in Whitehaven, Cumbria in October 2007 and
ends in 2012. It's happening region by region, and to find out which
TV region you're in, you'll need to check which ITV local news service
you receive. Once you've done that, you can check when your region
switches at Digital UK's website (digitaluk.co.uk). |
